The giant machine that springs to life at the start of each December has slowed down drastically. Under the hum of fluorescent lights, a sheet metal loading dock door is finally opened, allowing a crisp wind to loosen a portion of rust particles that have collected on the cement floor below.

We were perfectly prepared for the physical aspect of this journey, and partially prepared for the frigid wind chill. The topography shifts with every passing minute and it feels like we don’t belong, but witnessing these elements is the reason we are here.
Hark Madley - Stream (2019)
Dripping every few seconds onto a small ledge of black rock, unable to create a substantial unit of water because of the gravity it has always had to deal with, it moves on to the next phase. What was once a tiny icicle became a queue of drips, reaching downward, in a state of continuous motion.
Go Outside - it’s winter but there is no snow (2022)
The last remaining tree on the block lets its leaves hit every neighbor’s yard. Over the years their trees had become a nuisance and a source of daily frustration as the winds began to grow stronger. The dead leaves, not trying to offend, know only this one annual cycle. Their roll in nourishing the following season’s soil will be interrupted in a few days when the weekly leaf blowing ritual continues.
